Internal Pipe Composite Reinforcement

By advancedfrp on June 9, 2022

Internal corrosion is one of the biggest problems contributing to pinhole leaks, cracks, and splitting on industrial pipes. It causes almost 60% of corrosion-related failures.

Do you know how to detect, address and prevent interior corrosion?

⚠️ To fix corrosion from severe MIC or aggressive materials – apply a high-strength, anti-corrosion internal carbon fiber system.

⚠️ To stop the corrosion before the leaks occur – install high-quality, immersion-grade coatings designed for use in aggressive water-immersion services.

⚠️ To detect corrosion – perform regular Ultrasonic Thickness Monitoring (UTM)

HOT TOPIC – Carbon Fiber Solutions for Structural Repair & Reinforcement

The global infrastructure industry is fast replacing traditional building materials such as concrete, wood, and steel with carbon fiber composite solutions for structural strengthening— and for good reason.

Properties of Carbon fiber:

☑️ Provides more thermal capabilities over traditional materials

☑️  Gives minimal changes to weight or appearance

☑️  Is easy to apply and conforms to any shape or size

☑️  Provides strength and resilience to a structure at ten times that of steel

☑️ Doesn’t need welding and doesn’t require heavy equipment to use

☑️  Offers better ROI and is more affordable

PROJECT HIGHLIGHT – Converting a Fuel Oil Storage Tank to Biodiesel

Our products were recently used to coat the interior of a storage tank the size of a football field that was being converted from fuel oil to biodiesel.  Bringing the tank to the level of cleanliness needed for grit blasting and coating procedures to move forward was an enormous and time-consuming ordeal for the client, who had already spent months on it.

How was the problem solved?

  • Advanced FRP’s oil tolerant epoxy 201 OT Primer and two coats HP 300 GF were applied across the entire floor and walls up 24 inches.
  • Our process allowed the client to have some oil contamination that didn’t need to be fully removed and saved them time and resources in surface preparation.
