Project summary:
The inspectors at an urban utility company found significant corrosion on the high voltage pipe-type cable systems used to service their customer base. These aging cable systems were routed through a tunnel which caused significant corrosion, especially at the tunnel entrance where moisture is more common. Advanced FRP Systems developed a solution that would protect and reinforce a long sweep elbow section with a high-strength, carbon fiber composite. A 6-layer system was installed to protect the pipes against further external corrosion and would provide a secondary pressure boundary capable of withstanding the full internal pressure of the pipes.
