A chemical processing facility took an aqueous solution tank out of service due to an accumulation of solids in the base of the tank. To access the base of the tank and facilitate cleaning, the facility cut a hole in the tank and decided to modify the tank by installing a flanged manway to replace the removed tank wall section. The manway was installed in conjunction with a four-layer composite system to provide the structural, liquid-tight, and chemically-resistant qualities needed for a successful return to service
