Underground power transmission lines are generally protected by a barrier coating and cathodic protection yet the largest pipe-type cable operator in the US still experiences multiple dielectric fluid leaks a year. A carbon fiber reinforcement system installed with the feeders online provides a secondary pressure boundary to prevent leaks and a 50-year life extension for this critical system.
