Solution: Concrete Repairs with Composites
ID: SPR-12-00174
Project summary:
The building manager of condominiums in Texas struggled with repairing a degraded concrete column. The column, located near a waterway, was damaged by boat collisions, flooding, and wear over time due to age. The damage left the metal rebar exposed, which eventually started to corrode, threatening structural integrity. Temporary mortar repairs were attempted in the past but failed within a year. Advanced FRP consulted with the condo management team and recommended a composite sleeve repair, filled with structurally reinforcing repair putty. The repair is designed to take the compressive load of the column, even if the concrete and rebar further degrade over time. The solution was implemented in a day and a half.
