Industry: Other
Solution: General Tank Repairs - Tank Enhancement
ID: CTR-11-00144
Project summary:
Inspectors at a food production facility found significant degradation and deep pitting in a 10,000 gallon grease recovery tank. The steel tank operates at over 200°F, so a high-temperature and chemically-resistant solution was required. After removing a sloped concrete layer on the tank floor, the steel was grit blasted to an SSPC SP-10 Near white metal finish and the deep pits were filled in with FRP Repair Putty. The floor and walls of the tank were reinforced with a high-temperature, hydrocarbon-resistant carbon fiber based composite with a novolac epoxy topcoat. The tank was able to return to service on time and without any significant issues.
